Student Communication

Keeping in touch

The School and the University will communicate with you regularly using your university email address, which you will be given on arrival.  This email address will normally be in the format:

It is essential that you check this email inbox regularly via

Home Address

Please ensure that you update contact details on your student record when there are changes including postal, email addresses and telephone numbers. These must be updated when you are away from the School as well (e.g. on return trips home, fieldwork, whilst waiting for your viva).

Emergency contact

You will also be asked for an emergency contact (name, address and telephone number) should we need to contact someone in the event of accident or emergency.

You can update your personal details via My Manchester.

Student Email Lists

The Doctoral Programmes Office have lists compiled of all students' email addresses within each division.  Students are able to use these in order to communicate with larger groups of students - there is one for each division (including all year groups) as well as a specific list for first year students.

In addition, DBA students can also be contacted in a similar way via the following lists:

Please note that messages sent to these lists are moderated by the Doctoral Programmes Office.

We also have a PGR twitter page @mbsdoctoral which is managed Monday-Friday. Here we will share up-to-date information from within the School and also from external bodies which you may find useful during your studies.  Many areas across the University have Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn pages which you may wish to use for information.

This eNewsletter includes contribution from Academic staff, the PGR Administration Team, the University Librarian and various training organisations and communities, as well as the PGR Student Community. This is your newsletter, so if there is something in particular you would like to post, or see posted regularly, then please do let us know.

We encourage Students to share good news stories about their successes and achievements as well as any events, seminars or Conferences they would like to promote to the PGR Student Community.
